Tattoo Aftercare
Woohoo! You’ve got some awesome new ink, friend! Here are some detailed instructions to help with the healing process.
Second Skin
Your second skin should stay on for the next 4 days. While the second skin is on, please avoid heavy exercise/sweating. If the corners start to peel, go ahead and trim them back a bit. If the tattoo becomes exposed during any part of this healing process, take the second skin off. Additionally, if you find that you are experiencing a reaction or sensitivity to the second skin, please take it off.
If possible, your second skin should stay on for a minimum of 24 hrs to a maximum of 4 days. During this time, you may see a bit of fluid build up underneath the second skin. This is typically a mix of plasma and pigment but is nothing to be worried about.
When you are ready to remove your second skin bandage, it is recommended that you do so in the shower. Use the steam to gently pull the bandage down in the direction of your hair growth. Do not rip it like a band-aid.
Caring for Your New Tattoo After Removing Second Skin
Once the final bandage has been removed, continue caring for the tattoo by washing and moisturizing as needed until the tattoo is fully healed. I recommend applying a thin veil of Aquaphor and lightly washing at least twice a day until the surface skin appears healed. The tattoo may appear to be fully healed on the surface once your second skin bandage comes off. However, deeper layers of skin will still be repairing for 2-4 months.
DO NOT pick, scratch at, or rub your tattoo while it is peeling. Doing so may pull pigment from the skin and result in a poorly healed tattoo.
NO SWIMMING or sitting in bathtubs, hot tubs, pools, or open water for at least 2 weeks.
Keep your tattoo protected from harsh sunlight during the first few weeks by wearing long sleeves or covers. Once the skin is healed, apply sunscreen liberally when exposed to UV light rays to protect the tattoo and prevent any sort of damage that could occur from sun exposure.
Touch Ups
If needed, your first touch-up is free of cost if you come in within the first 6 months of getting your tattoo. Depending on the size, detail, and amount of blackwork in a tattoo– Touch-ups can be done 3 weeks - 2 months after the initial tattoo. Please contact me via email if a touch-up is needed, and include a recent photo of your healed tattoo. My business email is dadditatts@gmail.com.
Happy Healing!
